Im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Untersuchung steht die systematische Auseinandersetzung mit der Frage, ob und mit welchen Formen der Gewalt die hochgradig organisierte sterreichische Sozialdemokratie am Ende der Ersten Republik der faschistischen Gefahr Einhalt gebieten wollte. Ausgehend vom Clausewitzschen Paradigma der doppelten Arten des Krieges kommt es dem Autor zunchst darauf an, zentrale Kategorien sozialistischer Wehrpolitik hermeneutisch herauszuarbeiten, um auf dieser Folie die wehrpolitischen Konzeptionen Theodor Krners (18731957) und seiner Kontrahenten im Republikanischen Schutzbund zu analysieren. Unter Heranziehung umfnglichen Archivmaterials kann der Verfasser berzeugend darlegen, da Krners wehrpolitisches Konzept keinesfalls als Antizipation guerillastrategischer Vorstellungen gelten kann wie bislang in der Forschung unterstellt , sondern da Krner vielmehr als Vorlufer der aktuellen militrpolitischen Anstze gelten mu, die unter dem Schlagwort der defensiven Verteidigung bekannt wurden.
