Die lange Ara drs groBen Patriarchen Athenagoras r. ist in der Be richtszeit zu Ende gegangen. Dem Wechsel auf dem okumenischen Thron und des sen Folgen ist daher breiter Raum gewidmet. Ausfiihrlich werden alsdann die Vorgange in den Kirchen von Griechenland, Zypern und Antiochia sowie die Aktivitat des Moskauer Patriarchats im Nahen Osten hehandelt. Hinweise auf die Entwicklung in den orthodoxen Patriarchaten von Alexandria und Jerusalem sind an verschiedenen Stell en eingeflochten, so daB der Verfasser hoffen darf, ein einigermaBen abgerundetes Bild orthodoxer Kirchenpolitik in der Region gegeben zu haben. Was auBerhalb des ostlichen Mittelmeerraumes und des angrenzenden Vorderen Orients liegt, ist nur inso weit beriicksichtigt, als es zu den regional en Problemen Bezug hat und zu deren Ver standnis herangezogen werden muB. Zeitlich schlieBt die Darstellung mit dem Stand yom Juli 1975 abo Fiihrend innerhalb der aus einer Mehrzahl dogma tisch geeinter, aber administrativ unabhangiger (autokephaler) Gliedkirchen bestehenden orthodoxen Glaubensgemein schafl: sind die Patriarchate von Konstantinopel und Moskau.
